Pagosa Springs Camping Trip

Over Memorial Day, we headed to Pagosa Springs for some fun. We have not stayed here before, just passed through a couple times. We booked a reservation at Pagosa Riverside Campground.

Jeep Trail – Middle St. Vrain, Coney Creeks, & T33A Trails

We hung out with the Hobo Group, Patrol 1 from the Mile High Jeep Club. We did two semi-moderate trails, which included T33A, Middle St. Vrain, and Coney Creeks Trails. They are all off the Camp Dick Campground, which is located by Allenspark, Colorado off of Highway 72 (not too far from Boulder).

Jeep Trail – Slaughterhouse Gulch

 

We did an impromptu Jeep trip this last weekend to a trail by Bailey with some friends. In the Funtreks book, it is Trail #80, Slaughterhouse Gulch. The book rated it a Difficult Trail, but we would say more like a Moderate (considering the two Jeeps in our group both were Rubicons).

Hello everyone! Sorry we have been MIA lately, but after having our baby in September (her name is Tegan), we also had a crazy idea to move houses, so we have been super busy with everything!

Durango Camping Trip

We headed down to the Durango area with Stacy’s parents, who were visiting from Texas, and her cousin and family from Colorado Springs. We had never been in the area before (besides being close at Ouray/Telluride), but heard good things about it. Since the parents needed hookups, we looked for campgrounds and came across Lightner Creek Campground, which is on the West side of Durango. It is a little off the highway, but is so peaceful hidden away in some trees and surrounded by mountains. The campground has basic amenities, like showers/bathrooms, pool, general store, etc. The spots are also not as close as some of the campgrounds in the area are. Pets are welcomed, but we ended up leaving our two pups at home with Aunt Amy.

Tarryall Reservoir Camping Trip

We met some friends by Tarryall Reservoir, which is by Jefferson, Colorado (approximately 1.5 hours from Denver). There were some camping spots at Tarryall, as well as some day-use only spots. We headed back behind the Reservoir about a mile to the National Forest Land, which had plenty of open spaces to dry camp. Fires were banned, as Colorado has been having some horrible forest fires lately. There were some campers back in the forest area, but there was enough room to spread out and not feel too close to each other. Camping was super peaceful and quiet, with some gorgeous views of the mountains. Cell service is very spotty since we were in the middle of nowhere.

Ouray Camping Trip

Over the Fourth of July weekend, we went down to Ouray, Colorado to enjoy the scenery and festivities. The drive was approximately six hours (with stops) from Denver. We decided on dry camping for this trip in Ironton Park, with the tips from Russ on the Road on where to go. It was pretty easy to find the camping spot just past Ouray. The San Juan Skyway (highway) is a very interesting road – it is a little on the curvy side and one side is a straight drop down to the valley below with the safety of any guardrails. The speed limit is only 15 mph, so you can go slow enough to enjoy the beautiful views from the road. Ouray has a lot of gorgeous waterfalls to look at as well.

Salida Camping Trip

This post is a tad bit behind, but we have been swamped with work and baby prep. Over Memorial Day weekend, we went to the Salida/Buena Vista area to camp with some friends. We decided to stay at the Heart of the Rockies Campground, which is about 10 minutes West of Salida. Due to our last minute decision to come here, all the closer campgrounds were full. There will be more info. on the campground in our next post with a full review.
