Campground Review – Bear Creek Lake Park, Lakewood, CO

We thought we would give some insight to all the campground and areas we stay at for those that plan on traveling out this way. Our first stop was Bear Creek Lake Park in Lakewood, Colorado. We decided to stay here as our first trip since it is in the same city as we live in and we would be able to run home or to the store if we forgot something!

  

The campground, called Indian Paintbrush Campground, has 47 sites with hookups and water/dump stations. It is close to the cities of Lakewood and Morrison, which is off of Interstate C-470. There are also cabins and yurts to rent.

Likes

• Extra-Large pads
  • Well kept
  • Includes fire pit and picnic table
  • Electrical hook-ups
  • Spacing – it felt like we were not on top of each other like in some campgrounds
• Playground – newer with lots of areas for the kiddos to play on
• Easy access to trails for biking, hiking, running, etc.
• Activities available like swimming, archery, paddle boarding, boating
• Wildlife viewing
• Group camping sites – you can reserve a giant section if you have a lot of people in your group. It is secluded from the main campground and has an outhouse available. There are no electrical hook-ups.
• Pets allowed (and free)
• Online reservations
• Recycle bins – Stacy was geekily excited about that so we did not have to haul our recycles back home

    

Dislikes

• “Faint” sound of Interstate traffic – otherwise the campground was super peaceful
• Smaller bathrooms with two pay showers – but at least they have them available
• Reservations will be harder to get in the summer, especially when the concert season at the close-by Red Rocks starts up

Price

• $20/night, which includes a day pass
• $15/night if you have the annual pass (which is $50)

We camped our second night with our two nieces, ages 10 and 5. There was plenty to do with hiking, playing at the playground, roasting {vegan} marshmallows on the campfire, and playing cards when the wind picked up.

Overall, we really liked the campground. We would actually camp here more if it was not so close to our own house.
